Using WordPress as a CMS for Affiliate Marketing

On April 25th I spent the day at WordCamp Reno-Tahoe where I gave a presentation on using WordPress as a CMS for affiliate marketing. Other than being the MC for WordCamp:Las Vegas, this was my first time putting together slides and a speech and presenting it in front of an audience.

For those who weren’t there, unfortunately not many of the sessions were recorded. I believe most of the presenters will be uploading their slide decks and, from what I hear, they will be linking to them shortly from the WordCamp Reno-Tahoe website.

Here is the slide deck from my presentation:

I had my handy-dandy Flip video camera with me and recorded my presentation which you can see here:

Thanks again to Colin Loretz for putting on a fantastic show this weekend and especially for letting me be part of it.

WordPress is the best CMS to use mainly because it can be customized very well. Any kind of site or design it works fine.

Thanks for the great presentation. I didn't knew you could do that much with wordpress.

  14. Interesting presentation… I'd like to add that WP is an effective cms for sure, but when creating lots of websites it can become very cumbersome to keep it updated and avoid security holes… Easy with one blog, but 100? It would be a full-time job for someone to keep up and updated unless you hit up a programmer for a scripting job to keep stuff updated..

Two quick points about your comment.
      1. I agree that previously WordPress was putting out security patches at an alarming rate. But, 2.7 was released and it was nearly 6 months before 2.7.1 required you to update again. Not too bad, I'd say.
      2. If you are talking about managing 100 sites, no matter if it's WordPress or any other CMS system, upgrading them all is going to be tedious. Thankfully WordPress now has the automatic update option from the dashboard and you can get through your 100 upgrades pretty quickly as a result.

Thanks for the inspiration on using wordpress for a travelblog affiliate site. The wheels are turning as I write and I am going to implement a new business right away. This whole blog is fascinating as I am new to the whole tech thing, but progressing along nicely.

Great presentation. Looks like wp blogs will be the most popular platform to use.
